چکیده

An apparatus tailored to accurate density measurements of supercooled water, i.e. liquid water in a metastable state below the freezing point temperature, was recently developed at Institute Thermomechanics Czech Academy Sciences. The apparatus, dual-capillary dilatometer, is described, together with measurement procedure and evaluation methodology. primary result method are relative densities respect reference temperature given pressure. In order calculate absolute densities, as function pressure needed. For calculation such dependence density, so called thermodynamic integration involving literature data our experimental results used. dilatometer successfully employed ordinary heavy seawater. range from 238.15 303.15 K pressures atmospheric up 200 MPa presented compared respective IAPWS formulations properties. for also an equation Holten et al. (2014) revealing good mutual agreement. expanded uncertainty acquired by means estimated be lower than 50 ppm.

Observation of the density minimum in deeply supercooled confined water

Small angle neutron scattering (SANS) is used to measure the density of heavy water contained in 1D cylindrical pores of mesoporous silica material MCM-41-S-15, with pores of diameter of 15 1 Å. In these pores the homogenous nucleation process of bulk water at 235 K does not occur, and the liquid can be supercooled down to at least 160 K. The analysis of SANS data allows us to determine the abs...

Thermodynamics of supercooled water.

We review the available experimental information on the thermodynamic properties of supercooled water and demonstrate the possibility of modeling these thermodynamic properties on a theoretical basis. We show that by assuming the existence of a liquid-liquid critical point in supercooled water, the theory of critical phenomena can give an accurate account of the experimental thermodynamic-prope...

Dual laser interferometer for plasma density measurements on large tokamaks.

A two-wavelength plasma density interferometer utilizing a CO(2) laser and an HeNe laser is described. The interferometer is being designed for use on Doublet III, a large noncircular cross-section tokamak. The use of the two wavelengths allows the distinction between fringe shifts due to plasma density and fringe shifts due to mirror vibrations. Plasma density fringe shifts of 1/10 of a fringe...

Thermal conductivity of supercooled water.

The heat capacity of supercooled water, measured down to -37°C, shows an anomalous increase as temperature decreases. The thermal diffusivity, i.e., the ratio of the thermal conductivity and the heat capacity per unit volume, shows a decrease. These anomalies may be associated with a hypothesized liquid-liquid critical point in supercooled water below the line of homogeneous nucleation. However...

Model for dynamics in supercooled water.

We propose a phenomenological model for the intermediate scattering function (ISF) associated with density fluctuation in low temperature water. The motivation is twofold: to extract various physical parameters associated with the ISF computed from extended simple-point-charge model water at supercooled temperatures, and to apply this model to analyze high resolution inelastic x-ray scattering ...
